Folly Beach
Folly Beach is like few other destinations. A former hippie hangout, now considered the hippest beach in the Carolina's! Surfer dudes mingle comfortably with retired boomers, and you can't tell them apart on Folly. They all come to experience a beautiful beach and an utterly laid back island lifestyle.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, there's no better spot than our little island. Folly's beaches are beautiful and uncrowded, especially in the off season. We have more public park space than any island in the low country. Our guests enjoy kayaking the river, hiking the east end near the lighthouse, early morning walks in search of the beautiful shells that wash up overnight, or simply rocking on the front porch enjoying a well-deserved respite from our busy modern lives.
The array of local restaurants and shops on Folly are eclectic and original... no chains here. Our 1,000-plus- foot-long fishing pier is a popular destination. And when the fish are running watch out... fishermen can't pull em' in fast enough, fish are literally flopping on the pier! Most are thrown back, but some will make it onto someone's supper table for a delicious feast from mother nature's bounty.
The dress code on Folly is aggressively CASUAL...flip-flops, shorts and a tee will do. So you might be thinking... let's leave the make-up, hairdryer and other fancy stuff at home.
But before you do, remember this....
Folly is just 11-miles away from the elegance and antebellum architecture of historic Charleston. So some may want to pack the fancy stuff after all!
Many historic plantations and gorgeous gardens are within a half hour's drive. Folly is the best of both worlds. Our guests combine a laid back island lifestyle with the history, architecture and world class dining of truely amazing American city.
